Buying A Good Mattress Is Like Buying A Good Night Sleep

You spend at least six hours in bed. If yours is too firm or too soft or too old, you end up waking with an aching body; that is, if you actually got to sleep. You get cranky and moody all throughout the day. You donÆt perform as well as you normally do at work. You are as stressful as ever. And worse, you might scare people away. ThatÆs all because of a bad sleep on a similarly bad bed.

If you want to avoid tossing and turning every night, do yourself a favor: buy a good and comfortable mattress. The problem with buying a mattress, however, is that people often totally disregard the direct relationship of the mattress and the quality of sleep and therefore haphazardly choose what is only currently available. If you seriously want to change your bad sleeping patterns and put to rest your old mattress, hereÆs what you should consider in your shopping.

1. Choose the mattress with medium firmness. Research shows that sleeping on a firm mattress can help cure back pain. There are some individuals, however, that seem uncomfortable sleeping on a firm bed, which is why buying a mattress with mid-firmness can be a good option since it can provide health benefits and superior comfort at the same time.

2. Take the weight and height factor. If you are quite heavy, choose the mattress with firmer tension and can support your weight, something that will last a number of years without collapsing. If you are somewhat tall, choose the mattress that wonÆt keep your feet hanging on the side. Ideally, it should have extra four inches at the bottom part.

3. Try lying on the mattress. DonÆt just touch and press it. Go and lie on it in the way that you do when you actually sleep. See how it feels, how it responds to your body, and how it provides support to your back. If you can, roll from one side to the other to test if the mattress provides even support. Spend at least five minutes in bed, and let your body decide. DonÆt worry about looking weird. YouÆd feel weirder if you donÆt get a good sleep.

4. Check the physical component of the mattress. Take note of the thickness and the depth. Remember that a good mattress does not only provide comfort, but also allows the proper alignment of the spine.

5. Consider the price, but donÆt automatically buy the cheapest. While the most expensive mattress does not necessarily guarantee quality, the cheapest oftentimes translate to cheap quality. Buying, moving, and, arranging a mattress are gruesome tasks, and you donÆt want to do them again after, say, a year.
