In recent times the air mattress as been designed
with more strength and rigidity and supported by a frame. These air mattresses are often manufactured from
rubber-impregnated fabrics or durable plastic and are equipped with a firmness controller and a electric pump. This
type of air mattress is often called an air bed. When refined and designed to this level they become more of a
permanent fixture or piece of furniture in the home.
This is unlike the air mattress that is used for
camping, backpacking and swimming, this type of mattress is made from a lighter material that is easier to damage
or puncture. These are often called sleeping pads in America.
